Gold Wing

The Gold Wing isn’t about one standout feature — it’s about how everything comes together. Since development began in 1974, Honda has engineered this platform around one clear focus: long-distance performance, comfort and reliability working as one. From the original flat-four GL1000 through to today’s flat-six, every update is built on real-world riding — refining balance, reducing fatigue and improving control. What you see now is five decades of development, a motorcycle designed to deliver a premium touring experience in every sense.

Gold Wing Tour Premium

The top tier of touring, where everything is geared towards making long-distance riding feel effortless. The most refined version of the platform — the proven flat-six paired with features that focus on comfort, control and real-world usability.

From integrated luggage and premium audio through to heated seats, electronic suspension and the option of DCT, every detail is there to reduce fatigue and elevate the ride.

The standard Gold Wing

All about the rider. It keeps the core DNA of the platform but dials things back for a more direct, connected touring experience without the extra bulk of the Tour setup — same premium build, just more nimble and focused.

What defines it is the engine. Honda’s 1833cc flat-six is low, wide and perfectly balanced, keeping the centre of gravity down so the bike feels far more manageable than its size suggests. On Australian roads that means relaxed cruising, easy overtakes and a ride that just feels settled, no matter how far you go.

Engineering

How it all comes together

A premium touring experience isn’t one feature — it’s how the engine, chassis, transmission and technology work as one.

6-cylinder engine

The horizontally opposed layout keeps the weight low and balanced — which is why a bike this size feels so stable at speed and surprisingly manageable at low speeds. Power delivery is smooth and linear, with strong torque available without chasing revs.

  • Low, wide, perfectly balanced
  • Minimal vibration — ride longer without fatigue
  • Built for distance, not just performance

Dual Clutch Transmission

Two clutches — one for odd gears, one for even — pre-select the next ratio for fast, seamless shifts with no interruption to power. Smoother in traffic, adaptive on the open road, and still fully manual when you want it via the handlebar controls.

  • Seamless, uninterrupted shifts
  • Adapts to your riding style
  • Manual mode for corners & engine braking

Connected, distraction-free

Navigation, music, messages and calls run directly through the Gold Wing’s display — controlled from the handlebars or headset. No stopping to check directions, no mounting your phone. Plug in, connect, and everything runs through the bike.

  • Full-colour TFT with handlebar control
  • Honda RoadSync integration
  • Clear nav on unfamiliar routes

Double wishbone · electronic suspension

Chassis engineered for the journey

A double wishbone front separates steering from suspension movement, so the bike stays flatter and more stable under braking or two-up. At the rear, electronically controlled preload adjusts to load and conditions for a consistent ride height and composed comfort over long distances.

  • Stays flat under braking
  • Engine sits forward for better balance
  • Rear preload adjusts to any load
The benchmark in touring

Ask any serious touring rider what sits at the top of the category and you’ll get the same answer every time.

Nearly fifty years on, the Gold Wing is still the machine every other tourer is measured against. We see it with our own customers across Western Sydney and the Hawkesbury — Gold Wing owners aren’t weekend dabblers, they’re riders planning trips down the coast, across the ranges, or right around the country. If that’s the kind of riding you’re working towards, this is the bike that makes it effortless.

Honda Gold Wing heritage

A touring icon, built across five decades

The Gold Wing story isn’t about one motorcycle — it’s how Honda steadily refined comfort, six-cylinder smoothness and rider-focused engineering over time.

  1. 1970s

    The idea takes shape

Development begins in 1974. The GL1000 launches with a flat-four and shaft drive — a new kind of long-distance motorcycle built for comfort and refinement.

  2. 1980s

    Full-dress touring

GL1100 and GL1200 add integrated fairings, luggage and luxury. The Aspencade defines what a grand tourer can be.

  3. 1990s

    Six-cylinder smoothness

The GL1500 introduces the flat-six — quieter, stronger and more refined across the whole rev range. The Gold Wing signature is set.

  4. 2000s

    A modern platform

The GL1800 arrives with an aluminium frame, more power and sharper handling — all without losing the long-haul comfort it’s known for.

  5. 2010s–20s

    Reinvented

A full 2018 redesign brings double wishbone front suspension, 7-speed DCT and Apple CarPlay. The 50th Anniversary Edition crowns five decades.

Each generation added something meaningful — comfort, balance, safety, engine smoothness and long-distance confidence. That’s why the Gold Wing still carries authority today.
